Positives: Simple and an understandable model of a complex mechanism in a human, thus shows us the memory line.
When introduced memory was just 'storage', so it created more meaning of the word memory, being more advanced.
The model was the start of the complex detail about memory showing that we remember some things more than others.
Negatives: Simplicity is large with no detail about the full attributes of memory and how stages are connected.
Model ignores factors which show and change how we memorise, which can change our intake and the process of stored information is not stated.
When first created there was a lack of evidence to back the model, no way to prove it's true.

Three positives of the multi store memory diagram
- It clearly and rather simply distinguishes the connection (and moreover the difference) between short term and long term memory.
- Although not showing it at first glance, the model in actual fact demonstrates the complexity of short term and long term memory. This is shown in a simple and somewhat 'user friendly' diagram.
- the model can be used as a 'basic structure' for other memory diagrams to expand on.
Three negatives of the multi store memory diagram
- Arguably, it is far to simplified to truly reflect the complexity and rather detailed processes of which take place within the human memory.
- It (rather unfortunately) does not display the personal differences between both STM and LTM. This would have been helpful to see at first glance (allowing the reader to gain a quick and simple understanding of the details which lie behind each memory bank).
- The diagram does not take into consideration the rather vast methods of memory, such as (rehearsal and sensory memory)

There are a number of good points made here. It is clear that memory is more complicated that one single model can make out.
Do you think that there could be a role for different types of memory for instance, do you think we remember faces in the same way as we remember what we ate for breakfast this morning, or even the fact that we have eaten breakfast?
How do you think this model fits into patients with amnesia who have an intact STM but a no LTM or no STM but intact LTM? {This is known as double dissociation - when two patients have disorders that are opposites of each other}

Positives: Many models that are more complex have been based on the Multi-Store Memory Model. The Multi-Store Memory Model gives us an easy basic understanding of how our memory works. The Multi-Store Memory Model allows us too distinguish between the different types of memory.
Negatives: The Multi-Store Memory Model is far too simple to give us a good understanding of the real complexity of our memory. The Multi-Store Memory Model doesn't take into account the context of the information that we remember. The Multi-Store Memory Model doesn't give us much detail about the different types of memory and the sub categorys which they have.

The Positives & Negatives of Multi Store Memory.
Positives: It's Simple (in a way it's positive right?) It has contributed to alot of memory research. psychologists used the (simple) multi-store model as a base to make a their own, more detailed model.
Negatives It's too simplistic. It does not go into detail what it meant by rehearsal and retrieval. it doesn't take into account other people with disorders (autism.)

Positives: -It has contributed to memory research -The model is easy to understand -It has influenced others to research further than this model
Negatives: -The model doesn't expand enough(it doesn't show attention or rehearsal) -It doesn't show the different context that the human brain takes in -The model is too simple

Positives of a Multi Store memory system: 1. The model is simple and easy to understand. 2. The model has helped with further research into memory. 3. It shows the differences in STM and LTM.
Negatives of a Multi Store memory system: 1. The model is too simplistic. 2. It doesn't explain attention and rehearsal. 3. It doesn't look at the personal differences and memory methods.

Multi-Store Memory of Atkinson & Shiffrin.
At first glance the Multi-Store Memory model is a little simplistic for a representation of the human brain, showing only the most basic functions, which is an immediate and its greatest disadvantage. Of course the working of the human body is such that no model is realistically possible; however the Multi-Store Memory model fails to account for the contextual nature of the information stored. Furthermore the Multi-Store Memory displays only the short and long term memory category omitting all of the sub categories therein. The simplicity of the Multi-Store Memory also serves as an advantage as it has inspired further research in the mechanism of the memory yielding many more models; most notably perhaps Baddeley’s Model of Working Memory. It should be noted that the succeeding models follow the same topology laid down by the Multi-Store Memory model. Another advantage of the Multi-Store Memory model is the trichotomy of the elementary divisions of memory, allowing for it to be elaborated.

Positives: 1. The multi store memory model is simplistic but provides a starting point for memory processes that are still being accepted today. 2. It provided the basic blocks for other people to build upon. 3.even though the model is basic it still allows us to distinguish between the short-term memory and the long-term memory.
Disadvantages: 1. The multi store memory model is too simplistic to be used to show how the brain work for store memories. 2. The model also ignore factors that can affect memory such as people with impaired long or short term memory. 3. the multi store memory model seems to suggest that rehearsal is the main method for transferring item from the short-term memory to the long-term memory but it is more of the way that you have rehearsed the item.

Negatives
1. It is simplistic and doesnt go into detail about the levels of long and short term memory. 2. There isnt enough emphisis on the interaction between the short and long term memory 3. It doesnt explain different types of infomation processed
Advantages
1. Helps explain the memory process quickly, clearly and simpley. 2. There is evidence that this process is correct as it has been studied by "Glanzer and Cunitz" who found the existance of stores from someone with brain damage

Multi-store memory model Positives: 1) Simple enough to be easily understood and developed further. 2) The model contributed to further research of memory. 3) The simplicity of the model led to greater developments in memory models. For example the Working Memory model.
Negatives: 1) A little too simple. Not enough depth and research which in turn led to further development. 2) It does not show human memory in enough detail. 3) It does not consider different memory methods.

Luke makes an interesting point above. What do other people think about this? Do you think we will ever fully understand the brain?

3 Positives of the Multi Store Memory very simple given a contribution to research into memory Shows the differences between long term and short term memory.
3 Negatives of the Multi-Store Memory Model not enough detail doesnt explain rehearsal Doesn't show the true comlexity of the human memory.

Positives 1. It shows the difference between short term memory and long term memory. 2. It's not difficult to understand. 3. It shows how memory is stored in sensory memory and if you attend to a memory in the sensory memory it is stored as short-term memory and if you keep trying to remember something over and over again (an e-mail), it is then eventually stored as long-term memory so you will be able to recall it whenever you want to.
Negatives 1. It doesn't show much detail about short and long term memory and how they differ. 2. The information is brief. 3. It is just a model so we don't know whether or not it's exactly true.
